E. sought stress reduction services and guided audio for high-risk upcoming surgery and recovery.
The Challenge
Examinations and medical tests showed that a cyst the size of a golf ball had penetrated the wall of E.’s small intestine. Surgery to remove it was scheduled for the following Tuesday.
As a previous client, E. was already familiar with my Stress Reduction services and my Empowered for Surgery Guided Audio Collection for medical procedures and recovery.
When she called me, she was still in severe pain and feeling anxious and uncertain about her circumstances. She tearfully expressed her stress and anxiety about the surgery, especially given her age (75) and other risk factors. We talked the following morning, two days before the scheduled surgery.
The Experience
E. purchased the Empowered for Surgery audio collection to reduce stress and build emotional strength and resilience for recovery.
Our Sunday session took place by phone. The Emotional Freedom Technique, relaxation, guided imagery, hypnosis, HeartMath coaching, and breathwork were woven into a potent experience of releasing and healing. We tapped into her present concerns and worries about the surgery; quickly, her stress dropped from a 10 to a 2 on the SUDS (Subjective Units of Distress) scale.
We entered into a dialogue with the cyst, and E. reflected on the toll her fears and worries had been taking on her health. She said she felt ready to explode from pressure, like the cyst. As we moved toward discharging the stress and toward solutions, she named specific changes she wanted to make in her life. She reflected that the cyst felt, to her, like a place where she had been storing emotions she hadn’t let herself feel.
By the end of the session, E. said she felt emotionally confident and prepared for surgery and recovery. She agreed to keep listening to the Empowered for Surgery audio collection.
The Results
Later that day, E. experienced a sudden, powerful flush through her abdomen that sent her to the bathroom for an extended period. “It felt different,” she said.
On Monday morning, an MRI was performed to assess the cyst’s size, location, and any changes in risk factors since the earlier tests.
Dr. H. walked into the hospital room scratching his head. He held up the scans from two days earlier next to the ones from that morning. E. shared with me that he told her the cyst was gone and the area had healed; the scans clearly showed it there two days before and gone now. He said he had to cancel the surgery, and that she could be discharged that day.
E. was discharged within a few hours, without pain, and with the surgery canceled.
